Well for one most of the CMS sites have to much work involved in making them look like something, including Joomla, i have it and do not like it, i will be removing it soon as it is a test site right now, SkyPortal is still my choice.
The other reason is Joomla has to much involved in making it a good looking site.
The real problem is that porting from Skyportal involves skinning from scratch. In Skyportal, if you wanted a new skin, you could go into an existing skin and make tweaks. Skinning with Drupal (and Joomla) involve identifying your desired layout, finding a skin that someone contributed that will allow that layout, and then modifying all display elements to conform to your particular Skyportal look-and-feel.
Personally, I like what I've done so far with this site in terms of a retro Skyportal look and feel. But frankly, I stopped short of completing it because there are new portal paradigms that are more fitting than Skyportal v1.0.
The real issue is the data port from an existing Skyportal site to Drupal (which I tend to recommend over Joomla). Once this is done, you can leverage new navigation and search and have, in the long term, a site that's much easier to update, enhance, and maintain.

I like it here, and yes i also like what you have done with it, looks good, and easy to use, just a little interesting to learn how some things work. I have Drupal runnind as a test site and may stay with it, not sure.
But please do not take me wrong when i say some thing negative about other CMS software i can see in the last year you have done extreamly good things with wingflap.net so keep going, ill try to keep up, lol
My problem is that I'm involved with many different things right now. Wihle there's plenty of work that can be done on this site to streamline it, I've been knee deep in other projects so I'll probably just be using this as an actual portal for posting content and responding to questions for a while.
Drupal 7 is out and is looking pretty cool, but the modules necessary to support this structure are not ready for prime time. I've created a site to support my mobile app work WingflApps (I love that name!) which is a Drupal 7 site. I'll be using this site to blog about my adventures in getting it going.
I relesaed an app for the Blackberry Playbook called Barry Black. I'll be removing the forum for that app from here and will be pointing people to the apps site. I think it makes more sense to separate out the two communities since I'm expecting more user interaction with that site and developer interaction here.
The Playbook is awesome! And the app earned me a free one! I'm posting this from my Playbook right now.
Please feel free to use this site for whatever reference it might provide. Also, please feel free to post any specific questions you have about your site development. I'd be glad to help however I can. Just be a little patient if I don't get to your question for a day or so.

#2 I'm looking at porting to Drupal
I'm looking at porting to Drupal. There are many reasons for this, some are technical in nature and some are more a matter of taste and preference.
Reasons:
ASP vs PHP
Better affordable hosting
Flexibility
License
Availible modules
Performance
#3 I agree with all of the
I agree with all of the above.
If it can be done with Drupal and still leave the "Migration Techniques" and final product "Open Source" then all the better.
