Category Navigation

This site is made up of many different content types such as forums, articles, downloads, links, etc. Each posting is associated with it's content type, the user who posted, as well as the category (or sub-category selected.

The question is if there should be an individual taxonomy vocabulary for each content type or a single site-wide vocabulary for categories to be assigned to any content type.
